YOUR PREGNANCY – WEEKS 6 TO 12

WEEKS 6 to 8:

Your Baby

  • Approximately ¼ inch to 1 inch long

  • All major organs are formed

  • Face, fingers, toes and eyes appear

  • Will see a heartbeat on ultrasound

Your Body

  • You may experience nausea and/or vomiting, fatigue, breast tenderness, headaches and/or frequent urination.

Office Visits Include:

  • Complete health and family history

  • A complete physical examination

  • Routine blood test and cultures; optional testing may also be performed

  • Ultrasound

Week 12:

Your Baby

  • Approximately 2-1/2 to 4 inches long and weighs approximately 1 ounce

  • The brain grows faster than other organs and, therefore, the head is larger than the body

  • The umbilical cord is formed

  • Fingers, toes and fingernails are forming

  • The heart is beating

Your Body

  • Breast size increases; nipples and area around the nipples darken

  • Clothing becomes tighter around the waist

  • Increased fatigue and/or less energy to do things

  • Nausea and/or vomiting may still occur

  • The placenta is growing

  • Hormones are being produced

Office Visits Include:

  • Limited physical examination

  • Sequential screening (ultrasound and blood test)

  • Glucose screening (if history of gestational diabetes/diabetes)

  • Pregnancy Education Visit

  • Nutritionist Consultation
