Mammography

Mammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a very low-dose X-Ray system for the examination of breasts. WomanCare uses the latest full-field digital mammography equipment. A mammogram is a screening tool that detects early breast cancer in women experiencing no symptoms, as well as diagnosing breast disease in women experiencing symptoms such as a lump, pain or nipple discharge.

Mammography detects changes in the breast up to two years before a patient or physician can feel them on examination. All women should have a screening mammogram at 35 years of age. Current guidelines from the American Cancer Society (ACS) recommend screening mammography every year for women, beginning at age 40. Research has shown that annual mammograms lead to early detection of breast cancers when they are more easily curable and breast-conservation therapies are available.
